I know. He doesn't find John boring at all.

The image sounds more mysterious than it is. There are bookcases with glass doors across the room from the bed and John was noticing the faint outline of a shape under a sheet in the glass and it made him think of nights when he had been alone when he thought Sherlock was dead. That was where he had gone. His thoughts were in the paragraph just before this snippet.
