Welcome to Pico! Good luck with your story and the naming. Why did you decide on vegetables as placeholders? Perhaps you could adapt those names to either first or last names for the characters (celery=sellers or some such).

Thanks for the welcome! I gave them all the names of vegetables because they're words I'm unlikely to use in the rest of the story and, well, I like food! I'm thinking their final names will probably carry over some sounds from the stand-in names as you suggested.
