March 2020 - Day 4

Here is the place to tell us about your daily success (or the lack of it)!
May the magic be with us all!

A bit early today, as I'll be busy in the afternoon. Sorry for the irregular schedule.d

This is the series that I'm writing about
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_Days_My_Prince

They leave it vague as to exactly what year span it takes place in but things that you pick up:
"Joseon" is mentioned and the Joseon Dynasty takes place anywhere from 1392-1897. It's a fictional prince so I don't have any basis for narrowing it down by anything that happens in the plot other than the fact that the setting is clearly "early." However, one key plot point is the prince knowing how to write and it's in Chinese, not the Korean alphabet Hangul. Hangul was personally created by Sejong the Great in 1446. So 1446 is the latest year I can have my fic take place in (if I make a vague reference that the fictional prince turned king is a reference to Sejong himself)

The gal that I'm inserting into the fic is going to be a match not for the prince, but for a character that in the story, they leave single (and he's a hottie!). I'm making her from the "West" for a particular reason. This character has face blindness so I'm figuring someone with physical characteristics far different than they'd see in Joseon/Korea at that time may be a good match for him (say if she had red curly hair and green eyes)

Sounds like a mighty task to take on. I'll stick with the familiar tried and true.

It is somewhat fussy but it also helps me form the universe so that I can get in the head of my gal.

That and I'm enjoying reading the history. I found that actually, picking the early 15th century instead of 50 or so years prior is a risk since the Silk Road had declined due to the collapse of the Mongol Empire in the mid 1300s but I think I can use that to creative advantage that it would make her travels FAR more dangerous and interesting.

Sounds good.
