November 2021, Day 7

Here is the place to tell us about your daily success (or the lack of it)!

May the magic be with us all!

Day 7: I transcribed from my notebook's 3 page of notes and ideas. 700 words, some of it looks like it could grow into something more.
Then I spent 2 hours working on a post of story recs, and for some reason the formatter would not cooperate. I wound up coding the html but it still didn't align correctly. so I retyped it, and it is still not aligned correctly. Now I am grouchy and no longer care if it aligns correctly. There was so much more I wanted to accomplish with my story today but now it is time to watch the Green Bay Packers football game and then binge watch Halt and Catch Fire later on.

Curse you, LJ.

I was going to give myself a break from chopping and changing today and just do 200 words in the book, but instead I spent too long having a small adventure to Queensferry, too long messing about, and eventually did 115 on the book and 205 on something else. I'll settle to the book tomorrow. Honest.

I particularly like the linguistic contrast between the Scots statement of 1687 - 'Repaired be both sheires 1687' - and the identical-but-English inscription of 1761 - 'Repaired by both shires 1761'.

The old family recipe names scribbling I was doing yesterday has kept me going (I do love names!) and I wrote another 500-odd rather general words about recipe names per se, and am now going to do some research (I've just got to work out where) for 'real' ones and the stories behind them if possible, because I think if I work in some ideas about nostalgia and heritage, I may be able to use it, either in my studies or as a personal essay :) I was encouraged to explore the possibility of creative nonfiction by one of my tutors last session (I never thought I could, given how quiet-to-the-point-of-torpid my life has been and no I'm not complaining when I see unquiet lives in other places) so along with the short fiction, I'm going to practice a bit of simply talking about what interests me and seeing if I can make it interesting for others... a long-term project.

Well, that's my excuse for doing all this about what is really pure self-indulgence.

Ack, sorry for being AWOL for two days, guise. It has been a weird (though not bad!) few days.

Unfortunately, I have only daydreaming and reading research — research! — to report. :D

Onward and upward!
