Day 29 (Team July)

I'm about to go to bed and as there isn't a post for today yet, I thought I'd better put one up. So here's today's prompt for your writing updates and for any extracts, thoughts, or comments you might have.

Heirs and Graces

Phase 3 -- July's writing:

Let's try another new target for the final three days. I may write more later, but this is where I got to so far. Consolata and Edward have been debating what to do next:

"Rupert needs a father. One who will present, not one who just sends him money."

"I agree." That was what he'd been working towards for the past three years. "It just might take a little more time than I'd anticipated."

"How long?"

The front door opened and then closed.

"Let's discuss that later. Isn't it time I said hello to my son?"

Consolata got to her feet, and rather grudgingly ushered in the new arrivals.

"Hello, Rupert." Standing, Edward forced down an unaccountable wave of panic. Rupert had no way of remembering his father from before, but he had no reason to reject him either.

I had been wondering how much time had passed since Consolata moved to North America. So Rupert is about three and a half now?

I like Edward's thinking, very balanced.

Thanks. Rupert's just coming up to three, but Edward is counting from the point he decided this was his child. I may need to make that clearer when I come to the editing phase.

Good to hear Edward wants to do the right thing.

He's trying, he really is.

Yeah, but will he succeed?

You'll have to wait and see.

Given Edward's track record, I'm hazarding a "no" :)

It sounds like Edward needs to start actually consulting Consolata about the plans he is making.

Edward's not good at consulting other people, and Consolata was the one that did the disappearing act this time.

*nods* Hopefully they can actually work out a solution together!

You never know...

Edward finally seems to be trying to have a more open relationship with Consolata.

He's trying, but it may be too late.

Something tells me Edward's good intentions aren't going to be quite enough... too many secrets.

You're probably right.
