I think one of the things that's been putting me off editing this half-novel is that I thought it was one of the best things I'd ever written when I put it down because RL bit me in the bum, and I've been afraid I'd be disappointed.
It's hard to pick something up after a long hiatus. One might have changed too much in the meantime, and the devout followers have all drifted away. *voice of experience speaking*
I've never had what you might call devout followers, rather the converse. I must admit, one of the reasons I put the first few chapters of this up on the internet back in 2012 was that I hoped I might get a bit of buzz from people trying to guess whodunnit and that might help motivate me to continue, but ... not a whisper.

It happens way too often that you come up with something really good and no-one realizes... or if they do, they can't be bothered to comment. Interestingly enough, narrow-minded nitpickers don't seem to have the same problem.
I'm trying to resign myself to the fact that what fanfic consumers like to read is close-to-canon porn about whatever the Juggernaut Fandom of the Moment is, while what I most like to write is gen that wanders far from canon (OCs, futurefic, radical canon reinterpretation) in a bunch of rarelit fandoms.
It's one of the reasons Pico is such fun -- one gets that nice buzz :)
