I know what you mean. After the very few personal friends of me had fallen out of the LOTR fandom, I hardly ever had regular reviewers in any of my fandoms.
It happens way too often that you come up with something really good and no-one realizes... or if they do, they can't be bothered to comment. Interestingly enough, narrow-minded nitpickers don't seem to have the same problem.
I'm trying to resign myself to the fact that what fanfic consumers like to read is close-to-canon porn about whatever the Juggernaut Fandom of the Moment is, while what I most like to write is gen that wanders far from canon (OCs, futurefic, radical canon reinterpretation) in a bunch of rarelit fandoms.
It's one of the reasons Pico is such fun -- one gets that nice buzz :)
