I've completed 10 ficlets for about 2280 words.
I've also had lots of fun.
YAY!

This got somewhat hijacked by a boiling need to mercilessly rip the piss out of Torchwood, so while I did manage a few words of original fic, most of it was fanfic. But I did get 5000 total, *and* had time to pretty thoroughly start making a bellydance costume. So I'm counting that as a win :)

Wholly understandable. "Punched the pterodactyl" is the new "jumped the shark". ;-)

You are providing a necessary service. Kudos for the wordcount and the costume.

Somehow i managed to do it. My goal was 5000 words.
A snippet from what i wrote late last night:
I closed my eyes for a moment and tried to focus on my breathing. Deep breaths, in and out. I thought that if I could enter a meditative state I might be able to bring the previous day’s events to mind.
After several breaths, I opened my eyes, frustrated. Nothing. I took a sip of my juice, and closed my eyes to try again. Seemingly random and disconnected images flitted across my mind’s eye.

The extracts you've posted here have all been well worth reading too.

Sounds like a great description of post-Pico relief :)

My arms and wrists held out! Huzzahs and medals for all here at
I reached for the tissue box next to my recliner and padded my gun wound. The bullet had shot through the muscle and tissue of my upper thigh, passing clean through. The tissues did nothing to stem the blood flow. I staggered for the kitchen and my first aid box. ‘I don’t have it,’ I snapped, collapsing onto a stool. So it didn’t hurt, but being shot in the leg is still an inconvenience. ‘I passed it onto my client. Why don’t you go shoot her? She’d scream for you.’
He followed me, a pitbull in Armani, ready to attack again.

*bounces* I did it! I did it! I did it!
And now, here's a wee excerpt:
Thew newcomer removed his coat and hung it on the wall hook before turning to survey the room; given that he wore a suit and carried no equipment bag, it was obvious he was not here to train.
It was equally clear that he was looking for someone.
He stood for a moment, cold eyes examining each face before locking on a tall man with pale hair at the back of the room.
AND I'd like to say a HUUUUUUUUUGE THANK YOU to everyone for all the encouragement I received -- it really helped. :)

It's been a great journey... and it's only just begun. My secondary goal was to finish a second chapter, and I'm very close to doing so. I'll do that first. Then I want to set a goal for December with our ongoing Pico/EvMoWriMo or whatever it'll be called. The rest of my novel still lies before me!
I can't tell you how grateful I am to all you guys for your encouragement. This Pico has been everything I hoped for. Lots to celebrate and, although it's a first draft, I don't think the prose has been utterly useless. In particular, a thank you to Altariel1, for the idea, and your example in offering gentle encouragement as we've suffered together the highs and lows of Pico.
Lytellia looked down and realised, not only her dress, but her hands were covered in flecks of blood. It felt primal, exciting. Then she shook her head, “I agree. These oafish men around us are hardly better than the barbarians themselves.” She looked around with a sneer.

Total for the month: 7154
My goal was to have the first rough draft of a fantasy pirate story; I ended up with 5000 rather disjointed words. But even if I can't mold them into something more coherent, it was good to learn that I can write at a pace (slightly) faster than glacial.
And when I think of all the distractions in my life these past four weeks, 7000 words doesn't seem like such an insignificant achievement.

I meant to participate here more, but ended up lurking most of the time. Still, I did write about 4500 words more this month than I did the rest of the year, so it worked!
