I was very impressed with myself for getting the treat done -- it's my first ever not for my assigned recipient. I'm forever having good ideas -- before I get my assignment -- and then failing to write them.

I do wonder what I'm playing at with TJD, sometimes. Bits of it are probably the best stuff I've ever written, but can I really finish something that looks to be heading for 120k? And can I deal with the fact that no-one wants to read it (I've got drabbles with more feedback, and what's up hardly even gets any hits). I am thinking about putting a big chunk up but the lack even of month-on-month hits does rather put me off.

Kudos on posting! It's really hard to be rational about things you've just completed; it might just turn into gold overnight, without you needing to so much as touch it. Good luck, anyway!

I can't churn out very much daily; if I write a lot one day I tend to write very little the next because I'm editing the previous day's words.

It sounds like the idea must have grabbed you very tightly indeed, to get written through such a hectic/emotional time -- it probably means it's a good one. Is this your first Yuletide? On the whole people are very generous in their comments & kudosing, at least compared with the desert that's writing in small fandoms the rest of the year. Beware that the number of hits is hugely variable dependent on fandom -- some very small fandoms tend to get only a handful of hits, even for stories that are totally brilliant.

I hope your uncle's health continues to improve.

Hope the migraine aura clears up swiftly. Frustrating news on the rejection, but, as you say, it's a data point you didn't have before.

Here's hoping it will turn out to be much better than you think it is at the moment! Good luck!

How frustrating. I hope that that "click" arrives, whether that's realising that it is fine as it is, or finding the thing you need to make it work for you.

I too find myself suddenly tempted to explore Earthsea fic, thanks for the inspiration!

Congratulations on finishing your Yuletide assignment + treat!

but if I can write 15k words a month, which is doable, I could have it finished in under 6 months.

I remember saying something like that once ;-) Though you do seem to have greater discipline than I do. I have resolved my fanfic behemoth by saying that I have learned a lot in writing it, which might be a justification that works for you.

A turbulant but effective week sounds satisfying in its way. Congratulations on managing to do some writing at the same time.

That he is.

The concert went well enough, we didn't make too obvious mistakes. Not even Mum with her almost perfect pitch spotted them. ;)

Well, what with one thing and another the train was not massively productive in terms of fic, but I did catch up completely with my diary, which was a good 1000 words, and though I felt a bit tired and disinclined for difficult fic, I dug up a draft of something (a short "Daddy Long-Legs" fic) that turned into productive editing and 500 new words. Not a massive amount for a week, but OK under the circumstances, which included the end of term, a couple of trips to the cinema, a visit to London, and the end of a cold. I don't anticipate getting much if anything done over the next week, but I have brought some notes in case the moment arises.

Thank you. As usual, the posted chapter got routinely ignored at FF.Net, but at least it didn't get picked apart, which is about the only good thing that happens to my stuff there.

Thank you! Actually you've been inspiring me to get back to it! I'm capable of being disciplined for short periods, and then it all goes to hell and I do literally no writing for months (or sometimes years). Sigh.

The big advantage of finishing one novel would be finishing one novel -- I have three on the go, two of which stalled at the around same word count (45–50k). I think at some point the complexity just gets to me. The difference between a novel & a novella is supposed to be multiple plot threads, so I might well need to learn to wrap up a multi-thread story?

You've done well to get anything done in such a busy week, kudos! Hopefully, as you've been immersed in novel of late, your backbrain will be busy solving any remaining problems while you are enjoying Christmas away.
