Been writing most days but terrible at updating, sorry!

Lucia gets into a pickle and gets rescued. On the (long) car journey home:

“When I left,” Edmund continued, “I took the risk that someone else would pay you attention in my absence. Perhaps even someone in the Coterie! When I returned, I half expected you to be married. I was surprised to see you still alone. Concerned, to be frank. I always had that feeling you were vulnerable. I hoped someone would step forward.”

Vulnerable. That was how he was going to put it. A diplomat, he should have been. I felt a slight pang of resentment.

“As long as it wasn’t you, Edmund? Did you think me too much to take on?”

“I knew nothing of your life, Lucia. Of course I didn’t think that.”

Oh but now you do, yes!

“Don’t look at me like that,” he said hurriedly. “There was – a prior arrangement at home in the States. I thought I should honour it. But when I returned I realised that my bond with you had not been broken. To tell you the truth,” he pressed my hands again, “I don’t care where you’ve been or what you’ve done. I never did. When I read the letter I was surprised, don’t get me wrong. But you were in the middle of a war” – and he looked at me all a-tender and made my heart jump – “who am I to judge what happens in war? You killed nobody. You just made life.”

Works for me, and is not too strange to jar the reader... it's lovely and colourful :)

Back to Enterprise again

Because my muses are capricious and always do what they want. And now the Away Team is about to open the mysterious door - they just happened to find some moss on it, even though the planet was supposed to be dead.

Excerpt:

“My guess would be: our torches,” Novakovich eyed the alien moss with wary interest. “It must be a photosensitive species; which makes sense on a planet so poorly-lit like this one.”

“That is a logical conclusion,” the Vulcan agreed. “Take a sample, Crewman, but make sure to seal the testing tube airtight. We cannot know what breathing in eventual spores might do to lab personnel.”

Novakovich did as he’d been told, working carefully but with barely suppressed excitement. Sure, it was just moss, but still an alien life-form – one that nobody had seen for a hundred thousand years.

Another 320 words on the same little dialogue, still very much in Zelenka's POV...

"And where the fuck did you appear from? Quite. Literally." Given that both the contraption and Radek had - presumably - appeared out of nowhere, the gunslinger has a point. But Radek is not nearly as stupid as his Chief Science Officer likes to say on occasion, and knows that telling this terrifying man with his menacing - if disturbingly, genuinely historical-looking - gun the truth is not a good idea until he has a better idea of where he is.

And, as he begins to wonder, when he is.

And what the truth actually is, which Radek has been involved in the Stargate program long enough to know is not always what it appears to be. It is usually much worse.

I wrote most of an lj post about some plays I went to see, but it's words, right? Exercises the right muscles, or something.

I'm despairing a bit because I'll never catch up with all the things I want to write about - but I could have caught up far more if I hadn't spent so much time knitting things instead, so presumably it's just a case of getting my priorities straight!
