Typed up the past few days' efforts, and queued up the final post in my walk report. Wheels has broken 32K! (Admittedly, some of that's square brackets saying things like [plot goes here] and [why is she in Italy anyway?] but since those will eventually be real words I'm counting them.)

Today's snippet is part of Ben's memory of his one clean win.


It had been a long day out in the break. The five of us had worked hard to get away and stay away, and now, with forty-five kilometres to the finish, it was beginning to look like one of us could take the win. We had six minutes; using the rough-and-ready formula that says it takes a chasing peloton ten kilometres to bring the gap down by a minute, we were safe. Assuming that none of us did anything stupid, because we could only maintain that so long as we worked together. I was surreptitiously checking out my four companions, wondering who was the strongest, who would attack first, and who would fall off the back when they did. I suspect that everyone else was doing exactly the same thing.

Another couple of hundred Two People words, rather sketchy because I found a problem (one of those "you never see it at the time of writing but it later jumps up and down and is MASSIVE and how the hell did you miss it in the first place?" ones in the earlier bit and need to think up an alternate sentence... and some time spent editing stuff.

Given all days was spent at work in mind-numbing meetings, that'll do (I tried to sit at the back so I could scribble what might look to other 'meeters' like Important Notes but which was actually... well, Important To Me But Nothing To Do With Work Notes, but due to a suspiciously high absentee count, there wasn't a back for me to hide at...)

I wrote most of a walk report (finished on the bus this morning) from Middlesbrough to the coast at Redcar.

It could have been very dull along here, with nothing to look at but the different fences at the backs of the different yards, and it in winter it probably would have been - but now it was full of flowers and butterflies, brown Ringlets with white edges, Speckled Woods with yellow spots, and bright red flying ones which when they settled down became mostly-blueish-grey Cinnabar moths.
