March 2019. Day 6

Early post again, because I won't be around in the evening.

Here is the place to tell us about your daily success (or the lack of it)!

May the magic be with us all!

Finished off another Easter Egg this morning, so that's 500 words done and beta'd a friend's three recent pieces. It was a pretty productive morning considering I did all of that before 6:30 a.m.

I finished my drabble, won't have time to post it till the evening as I'm in and out this afternoon, but I figured I should stop here and let you all be the first to know :) It's an accomplishment considering I haven't done much of anything for several months.

Oh, sorry, Man from UNCLE.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2019-03-06 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Even so, look at you go!

Excellent work. You must feel quite chuffed.

Go you!

I got another drabble done - I think I covered two prompts in one, so there may only be one more to go before I post the set.

I often find the drabbles come better written on paper with a pen - and just do a word count when I think I'm about half way there. That way I seem to be able to write to between 98 and 102 words almost every time - is this weird or do other people find it easier to write on paper if things aren't coming easily?

sounds like a win to me.

[identity profile] ferretingabout.livejournal.com 2019-03-06 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
i stared at lots of easter eggs in the shop - but i don't think that counts

[identity profile] ferretingabout.livejournal.com 2019-03-06 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
writing after a long dry spell is the hardest, so kudos imo for getting the cogs turning again

[identity profile] ferretingabout.livejournal.com 2019-03-06 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
i always go to pen and paper when things dry up - manual expression lends itself far more, 'embodies' even, art output. it's like free association, or doodling, it's more intimate, more real, more private, less judgemental, slows you down and is a 'space' with no contrraints or boudaries. it's far more relaxing too. it also allows one to use a different part of the brain too, because writing is a reflex and that information is stored in the spine so by passes conscious thought, so we can fully engage our visual cortex which is a primary area of the imagination - similar also to driving a car, all our visual senses come into play and we switch off our 'critical' brain and engage our 'play' brain.

jogged in with a gentle 300 or thereabouts today.

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yay!

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, at least you did something.

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yay!!

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Great!

Very interesting. I think it things aren't going well I go away and read fan fiction. :D

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Good number!

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
I finished up my post on fever, so maybe 400 words? :)

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
it also allows one to use a different part of the brain too, because writing is a reflex
That's really interesting - I hadn't really thought about it but, of course, writing is so much easier, the fingers automatically form the words as I think of them.

Thank you - it makes a lot of sense.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I do that, but other times it can distract me from the characters in my own head, And there are times when I will actually go back and read my own old stuff to help ground the characters again :)

Something like 250 words of blog post - I'm not very sure how much was there already. But mostly a knitting day again - I want to get it well started as soon as possible, because things always seem to get on better after that.

I can't even think at that time! Very productive :-)

That all sounds useful, and I like sarky Chakotay :-)

Yay drabble! They're just as satisfying to do as much longer pieces, I think - everything you get in there has to belong.

I have to start stories or essays on paper, and preferably sideways across a folded up piece with something already on the back of it. A whole blank piece is too intimidating!

But I can usually go on writing on screen once I get going, and walk reports and factual blog stuff seem to be fine there, although that may be because I write around the pictures (and again don't start from a big blank page?)

...fever in the morning, fever all through the night...

Well done!

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, it's the thought that counts, no? :D

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! This thing always gets my writing juices flowing! :D

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It's my usual time to write. I get up about three and that gives me roughly two hours to myself before the hubby gets up and we have to tackle the day.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Boy, I haven't written fic on paper in years. Now it's hard for me to hold a pen (arthritis), so the keyboard is my best option. I think it's fabulous that you have found a process that works so well for you. Keep up the great work!

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you are cooking with gas and taking names. Keep up the good work.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent! You are getting into the spirit!

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm always much better at starting projects than finishing them, at least when it comes to sewing. Writing is easier for me to finish.

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
lol Thanks.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the glorious part of creating, though, finding out what is and isn't a challenge.

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2019-03-07 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
lol Well, I can be verbose on some things.
