Finished off another Easter Egg this morning, so that's 500 words done and beta'd a friend's three recent pieces. It was a pretty productive morning considering I did all of that before 6:30 a.m.

Thanks! It's my usual time to write. I get up about three and that gives me roughly two hours to myself before the hubby gets up and we have to tackle the day.

No new words today; I got sidetracked by my mammooth craft project again, and then the whole afternoon was taken up by chores. But I did type up the half scene I wrote yesterday, so I call it a success.

Excerpt:

“I thought you didn’t like Rollins,” Janeway confessed. “You’re always fair and civil with him, but I had the feeling that you didn’t like him.”

“I don’t,” Chakotay admitted. “His attitude sets my teeth to the edge. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t appreciate his abilities. We might disagree about a number of things, Captain, but it doesn’t mean I’m his enemy… or yours. I hoped you’d have realised that by now. Apparently, I was wrong.”

I got another drabble done - I think I covered two prompts in one, so there may only be one more to go before I post the set.

I often find the drabbles come better written on paper with a pen - and just do a word count when I think I'm about half way there. That way I seem to be able to write to between 98 and 102 words almost every time - is this weird or do other people find it easier to write on paper if things aren't coming easily?

i always go to pen and paper when things dry up - manual expression lends itself far more, 'embodies' even, art output. it's like free association, or doodling, it's more intimate, more real, more private, less judgemental, slows you down and is a 'space' with no contrraints or boudaries. it's far more relaxing too. it also allows one to use a different part of the brain too, because writing is a reflex and that information is stored in the spine so by passes conscious thought, so we can fully engage our visual cortex which is a primary area of the imagination - similar also to driving a car, all our visual senses come into play and we switch off our 'critical' brain and engage our 'play' brain.

That's really interesting - I hadn't really thought about it but, of course, writing is so much easier, the fingers automatically form the words as I think of them.

Sometimes I do that, but other times it can distract me from the characters in my own head, And there are times when I will actually go back and read my own old stuff to help ground the characters again :)

I have to start stories or essays on paper, and preferably sideways across a folded up piece with something already on the back of it. A whole blank piece is too intimidating!

But I can usually go on writing on screen once I get going, and walk reports and factual blog stuff seem to be fine there, although that may be because I write around the pictures (and again don't start from a big blank page?)

Boy, I haven't written fic on paper in years. Now it's hard for me to hold a pen (arthritis), so the keyboard is my best option. I think it's fabulous that you have found a process that works so well for you. Keep up the great work!

I know it sounds odd in these days, but I always write everything by hand first. Otherwise, the story wouldn't even feel real to me. Yep, I do have my idiosynchrasies, and lots of them.

Something like 250 words of blog post - I'm not very sure how much was there already. But mostly a knitting day again - I want to get it well started as soon as possible, because things always seem to get on better after that.

I'm always much better at starting projects than finishing them, at least when it comes to sewing. Writing is easier for me to finish.

Alas, it is the exact opposite for me. Craft projects I push through regardless of the casualties, but my never-ending WIPs often need years between updates. I still have some that have been hanging out, unfinished, for a decade and a half.
