Nothing like a good day of writing/translating :) Great job!

Small note:
The dun-coloured buildings (the hives as Lieutenant Brent had called them), were circular complexes made up of lumpy individual parts that – save for the hue of the same colour – were completely uniform,

the "save for...." is confusing (unless you're referring back to a description before this?) "Save for" would mean the hue is an exception to the uniformity, but the color you're referring to seems to be the "dun-color" which is uniform.
