November 2020 - Day 12

Here is the place to tell us about your daily success (or the lack of it)!
May the magic be with us all!

Much better day today. Manage 1030

“Hi, Buffy, we’re here to help supplement your income since you are poor and struggling.” Anya had no filters and Buffy knew it.

“Anya, remember our little talk about being sensitive?”

“You mean when we were in the shower and I stuck my finger—“

“Enough!” Zander interrupted with a self-conscious laugh. “What a kidder. Anyhow, Buffster, how about a wrap job.”

Anya looked totally confused as Zander took her shopping bags from her. “I thought it was called—“

“And with that we are off to do more shopping. I’ll pick those up later.”

Xander Harris. I had a brain fart.

Not really. Most of the time, you don't even feel them.

Earlier today when writing up yesterday's progress I said I'd edit my exchange fic today. Now it's midnight and I haven't started on it so... Oops? Ah well, there is always tomorrow.

Oh, dear. Perhaps a good night's sleep, instead.

Scribbled about 600 words on unadulterated nonsense for my Secret Santa story - it may end up being entirely thrown out but any words at the stage are better than none :) and I have hopes that the story will be funny.

Og, and I made a handful on icons for a challenge with a writing theme - does that count?

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2020-11-13 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, but you are getting words to paper and that's huge! :D I know the story will be funny as I know your sense of humor. :D

*yay* icons!

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2020-11-16 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
It'll be silly-funny probably, that's what I do :)

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2020-11-16 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't think of anything better!

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2020-11-16 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you :)

I have been under the weather for a couple of days. I'm very tired and my stomach is very touchy. So lots of naps and snuggling up with blankie and being lazy.

I worked on my story for a small time yesterday, just some tinkering. Today I worked on it for an hour, low energy but I am glad I gave it a go.

I've been feeling off as well, but mine is more mental - CV fatigue they are calling it. Sigh.

Even so, you got stuff done. I am proud of you.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2020-11-13 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It sure does...

[identity profile] akane42me.livejournal.com 2020-11-16 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect that's most of my problem too. CV fatigue:( Just day after day of bad news.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2020-11-17 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, big time. it's just miserable when you are doing everything right, but being punished for the people who don't give a crap.

2.5k written today! Sadly I am almost done with Queliot week (which starts posting Monday!) so my output is about to dwindle, probably, but I've enjoyed it while it's lasted!

Here's an except from day 5:

"You know," Eliot points out, "I don't have my crown anymore either. It went with the job title, for High King. And Margo's not about to give up her Margo the Destroyer crown." Quentin laughs, imagining how that conversation would go. Eliot's voice is bright when he continues, "We can make new crowns. Just because we don't have the originals doesn't mean we weren't kings of Fillory."

"That sounds nice," Quentin says, "but I know next to nothing about metal forging, other than what I've seen at the Renaissance Faire, and I'm pretty sure you know even less."

"Who said anything about metal?" Eliot asks.

And that's how they wind up with a kitchen table full of arts and crafts supplies in the middle of the day on a random Tuesday.

It was dancing night, and I was worn out afterwards, so just another little bit of local history - a little ruin which was apparently once an improbable ironworks. 213 words.

with iron coming into the river from the Baltic, and made at Fair-a-Far into tools and axles - and particularly, it seems, by a local cottage industry into a whole variety of nails, including ‘sheathing’ and ‘deckhead spikes’, which sound like they have a naval connection.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2020-11-13 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, a cottage industry of nails. You don't think about things like that now, but it makes sense.

I would have thought it took heat to make the points, but maybe they were filed rather than beaten, or something.

I think forging would have been faster, but who knows?

I went and read wikipedia on nails, but although I learnt that in the early days of America they had to make a law to stop people burning down their old houses to get the nails back, I didn't learn exactly how they were made :)

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2020-11-13 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That's interesting. I had no idea.
