November 2020 - Day 20

Here is the place to tell us about your daily success (or the lack of it)!
May the magic be with us all!

Got 772 words down for the next Xmas fic...

She squealed in painful delight and he let her go. “How is it that you are still unmarried, dear?” Morticia took a careful breath. Nothing seemed broken. “You have so much to offer.”

“Well, most birds don’t appreciate a well decorated crypt.” He followed her into the living room, remember to not step on the rug. He’d had an ankle full of polar bear last time and his Doc Martins still bore the holes.

“The younger generation, they don’t appreciate tradition.” Morticia glided back to the partially decorated tree.

“Speaking of tradition, I like your decorations. Makes me want to burst into song.” He successfully navigated the home furnishing and handed her an ornament.

“Hold that thought and you can help us pour hot oil on the carolers tonight.”
Spike grinned at the mental image. “That’s what I like about you folks. You know how to have fun!” He held up a paper chain made from parking violations. “Speaking of such, where is everyone?”

It was always a running gag in the TV show to have the rug growl when someone stepped on it. Occasionally, it would bite. :D

Trust me- it’s there.

Exactly! :D

Today mostly feels like lack of progress - I meant to do all sorts of useful things, and didn't, or tried and failed. But I wrote 246 words - here's a less scenic bit for [livejournal.com profile] spikesgirl58 :D

nothing very exotic there, and the path then kept to the worst bit of the Meadows, tucked between the houses and the busy road

Progress is progress. :)

Ooo, but I love your descriptions. We don't have anything tucked here.

I got a little bit done for the next entry-4 year old well child check, and even more for the one after-gender. :)

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2020-11-21 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I try to post every other week. And for the last year I've been doing every other post as a well check, starting with the 3 day old check. I'm up to 4 year old this time. So the post after that will be gender.

Got it. thanks!

1,178 words written today on holiday treats! So excited to start writing gifts for people!

Well done!

Only 300 words done. And about an hour trying to track down something I had seen abut a Jesse Tree....

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2020-11-21 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It is a very old English tradition - there are records of a Jesse tree going back about 1,000 years,

It comes from the the prophecy in Isiah ‘A shoot will spring forth from the stump of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots'. It was a way of teaching because at that time the Bible and the services were in Latin. So there was carving or a painting of a figure of Jesse, from which grew a tree or vine bearing David and Jesus - basically showing the genealogy of Christ as per Matthew in simple terms.

Over time more figures became part of the pattern, and apart from the permanent ones in old churches, some churches began to 'build' them in the season of Advent as a teaching aid.

We thought we would do one this year - in a very simple way way. And I knew I had a link somewhere to simple pictures we could adapt for the children to colour - but I couldn't find it for ages!

I've heard of a Joshua Tree... :D

300 words is plenty by my standards.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2020-11-21 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what my 10 year old granddaughter said, too :)

I have just explained the Jesse tree in a reply to Wiseheart's comment, if you are interested.

At least I was alive when the album came out! Although I have heard of the actual trees, too.

Thanks for the explanation :)

Cool and thanks for the explanation!
