We've reached half-time again, and it's such an unusual feeling that I'm already done with this session's special project. I wasn't sitting around idly, though — I've typed up the introduction chapter of "Pathways in the Dark — the evolution of a series" and posted it to hiddenrealms. It is a short one, barely longer than two pages, so anyone who wants a quick look into what "Pathways" actually is, can do so.
I also started typing up the "Who's Who in Pathways", which promises to be 8 chapters long (if not longer), but at least it's already written (has been for almost two decades), so all I have to do is to transcribe. It's a bit dull, but easy, so exactly the right thing for the hot weather as it doesn't require any higher brain powers. *g*
Why or why oh why, when I'm writing little original pieces with characters I am trying to make ordinary people, do I spend nearly as long dithering over names, changing names, deciding the names are too weird, deciding the names are too dull, remembering that I've used that name in theree other ficlets, fixing on names, then remembering you still see the ex-workmates with those name sometimes and won't feel write using them, and changing them again... back to the first one?
For a 600 word exercise with two characters?
{sigh}
One definite good thing about fanfic, the main characters all come pre-named...
Sometimes my happy obsession with names does get in my own way... I mean for stories about ordinary life, I need names that sound realistic for ordinary modern-day people.
And I really prefer making up entertainingly fancy ones.
