I was going to give myself a break from chopping and changing today and just do 200 words in the book, but instead I spent too long having a small adventure to Queensferry, too long messing about, and eventually did 115 on the book and 205 on something else. I'll settle to the book tomorrow. Honest.
I particularly like the linguistic contrast between the Scots statement of 1687 - 'Repaired be both sheires 1687' - and the identical-but-English inscription of 1761 - 'Repaired by both shires 1761'.
