I kept trying with the two Merlin ficlets but they are simply not working... so I put them aside and picked another prompt to do something quick and messy, about 400 words but it came much easier. So I'll revise it tomorrow and try for another. Plus I went and did a couple of the exercises in my course.
Not in all a lot (and I am a bit miffed at the ones I couldn't get to work but eh, if three goes don't do it, it's probably not gonna be done. Oh, and I counted up, the failed attepmpts were something like 850 in all... ouch)
Ouch! Mind you, because of my packratty hanbit of never throwing anything out, I have WIPs on my external HD going back oh I do not want to think how long.... they'll never be finished (except never say never) but I can't quite throw them away/delete them.)
Maybe they'll come in handy for harvesting bits and sentences and ideas for new stuff :)
I have one like that. My husband and I were writing it together from two points of view, back in the Buffy fandom, and it got to 17 chapters — around 50,000 words — then we were both distracted by other things. The last written chapter was posted in my journal in 2008 but I can't bring myself to delete it from the WIP file.

The WIP I'm currently working on is one I had to shelve for nearly a year

I can't ever bring myself to delete snippets of writing either, not even for fandoms I have fallen out of love with.
