My hope for tonight is to get some more editing done (ideally, get the rest of chapter 5's first draft edited, but ch5 is the one that needs the most rewriting and expanding as I was impatient to finish the draft, so I expect it to go slowly even once I can make myself go back to this task.)
I'm also brainstorming my assignment for a fic exchange I have signed up on. I had been pretty clear on what I wanted to write, but going through the requests beyond the ones we matched on, I realized I actually have more options for what I could write for them than I had expected, several of which are tempting. So I will have to look into that.
I kept trying with the two Merlin ficlets but they are simply not working... so I put them aside and picked another prompt to do something quick and messy, about 400 words but it came much easier. So I'll revise it tomorrow and try for another. Plus I went and did a couple of the exercises in my course.
Not in all a lot (and I am a bit miffed at the ones I couldn't get to work but eh, if three goes don't do it, it's probably not gonna be done. Oh, and I counted up, the failed attepmpts were something like 850 in all... ouch)
Ouch! Mind you, because of my packratty hanbit of never throwing anything out, I have WIPs on my external HD going back oh I do not want to think how long.... they'll never be finished (except never say never) but I can't quite throw them away/delete them.)
Maybe they'll come in handy for harvesting bits and sentences and ideas for new stuff :)
I have one like that. My husband and I were writing it together from two points of view, back in the Buffy fandom, and it got to 17 chapters — around 50,000 words — then we were both distracted by other things. The last written chapter was posted in my journal in 2008 but I can't bring myself to delete it from the WIP file.
I got a couple more paragraphs added tonight. It's a let down, I'd been on quite a roll, but I have a good amount to work on revising, and hopefully the story will come together in the next few days of revisions.
I've got Covid, so am doing writing/editing at times during the day just to keep myself occupied.
Lately, I've managed to edit three chapters of my book.
I've also started a new X-Files fan fiction; its inspired by Hitchcock's "Lifeboat": A group of people are adrift on a raft somehwere at sea, after their plane makes an emergency landing, and the Cigarette Smoking Man climbs on board.
