Well over midnight here and busy morning tomorrow, so I thought I'd post early again.

Here's today's prompt for your writing updates and for any extracts, thoughts, or comments you might have.

Keep the fires burning! :))

Heirs and Graces

Phase 3 -- July's writing:

Image

No writing yesterday, because I was travelling, and only a few words today because I've been doing stuff with Mum and Dad. Part of which was a research trip, which I still need to repeat on Sunday, but they were very keen to go to the place as well. Unfortunately some parts I wanted to check out aren't open to the public on Thursdays and Fridays. Back to 1963, and Edward has been persuaded to go out for the evening:

"I said, it's good to see them looking so happy, isn't it?" Nicky's tone implied he'd asked the same question more than once before.

"Sorry, miles away." Edward sipped his cognac and looked across the floor to where Julia and Bridie were dancing. Having got into the club unrecognised, and then secured a corner table, he was staying alert to all potential threats. Consequently, he'd been ignoring his companions a little too obviously. "All settled between them? No lingering bad feeling on either side?"

Kudos for getting some words down even with other things distracting. And research trips absolutely count!

Having got into the club unrecognised...

This is all going to go horribly wrong, isn't it...

Thanks, and well, I'm not always totally mean to my characters...

All words are good :)

Wonder what is going to happen next... somehow I doubt that his luck is going to last.

Thanks. You never know, I may be kind to my characters for once...

Research travelling is very important, pity that some areas weren't open though.

So Julia and Bridie have had difficult times?

I knew in advance that there was a chance some of the rooms I wanted to see might be closed, but Mum and Dad were keen to go there too and they can't make it on Sunday so I'm having to go twice.

Julia took up with Bridie when she was estranged, and they had a flat together (arranged by Edward), but then Hugh managed to entice her back. Bridie was devastated and moved back into the Mews House over Edward's garage, where her brother had been living all along (people are a little cynical about Nicky and Bridie's relationship, but they really do view each other as siblings in spite of the historical prejudices around them).

The web of relationships is amazing. I'm gleaning that Nicky and Bridie aren't biological siblings or are they half-siblings, one from the wrong side of the blanket?

Nicky's parents adopted Bridie when they brought her back to England with them at the end of the War. A bit morally debatable in some respects, but she might not have survived to adulthood if they'd left her behind.
