Righty-ho then. I am up to about 4500 words.

*blink*

Did I just say that? Wow...I didn't realize I'd come so far... :D

Excerpt:

Sinking down on the edge of his bed he glanced at the glowing red numbers: 12.30 am.

Christmas morning.

His lips twisted and he raised his glass to the dark in bitter salute. Then he brought it to his lips and drained it.

(random, I know ;))

Congratulations for your 4500 words and also for saying, "righty-ho". :-)

::awards you kudos on both counts::

Intriguing extract too.

Someone who's extended their PicoWriMo into late December? ;)

471 today. Relatively productive: I decided to split the out-of-control finale chapter, found a good end point for the first installment and started the new chapter 11, though chapter 10 still needs polish. Excerpt shamelessly stolen from the original...

‘That’s right,’ said Ferdy. ‘There’s a word for it, big-something, bigonia, bigwiggy… on the tip of my tongue.’

‘Oh, you mean bigamy,’ supplied Hero. ‘That’s illegal – or at least I think it is. Didn’t Abraham have two wives? Or was it three?’

‘Don’t think I know anyone called Abraham. Do you, Gil?’

‘Silly! He’s from the Bible!’

‘Oh, I definitely don’t know him then. Very bad
ton, those Biblical chaps.’

Good for you. Keep that internal editor under control and keep churning the chapters out until you've done draft one.

(Just wish I could take my own advice ... lol)

Thanks, Tawek. I'm usually ok as long as I actually start the new chapter; if I have a thread to tug me forwards I don't stall even if I spend time polishing the old.

Thanks! Entirely snaffled from the discussion about Cleopatra the Mummy, but it seemed to fit.

After Thursday's minimal effort I added another 500 or so, bringing chapter 5 to 3850 words.

I think scene 5 is getting a bit ahead of itself, though. It may be introducing some plot twists that I want to hold off on for another chapter. But I guess that can be corrected in the second draft.

So this was how it would be, Michael realised. Even at the height of his most severe disagreements with the bishop, Michael had not believed he would flatly refuse to explain his reasons, nor demand unquestioning obedience so diametrically opposed to the search for knowledge that was central to the Remembrance faith.

You're really trouncing your expectations here, aren't you? As to plot twists, even if you need to move them later, you may well find the material can be cut and pasted. Or perhaps you'll come up with more plot twists for the later chapter.
