Indeed, it is. In the original story idea it would have been weaselly Wesley who lets Data escape b/c he actually buys the kitchy request about the stars. And the security guard would just let them go. I was not buying it and wanted a more convincing reason.

Wesley's naivite was way overplayed. And an ep where he isn't so much as mentioned is a good one in my book.
