Pico, Day 24

I hope nobody minds that I step in, since [livejournal.com profile] elmey seems to be hindered by the higher powers.
So, here is your place to share today's achievements, thoughts, concerns and victories.

May the magic be with us all!

Sorry for vanishing for long - weekend away turned into weekend away, followed by a quick turnaround at home, then another trip; all with extra stress due to possible rl crisis-ness. However, now safely back home and everything stable for the moment. All this lead to no writing or research while I was away, but hopefully now that I'm back I'll get back into it (but probably not until tomorrow as today is a day for resting and recovering). Also, catching up on comments, although idk if I'll manage to ever catch up properly... but looking forward to seeing the what everyone has been up to.

Another 500 words today, after a busy afternoon of paperwork and administrivia. Edward's arranged for transport to collect him, Roo and Quinn, but Christophe is planning to get a lift back to his hotel in Linda's car before the horsebox turns up:

"In that case..." Edward considered his words carefully, and decided to try a different approach. "How's Roo? I'm afraid his mother's news rather took me by surprise, and I didn't want to say anything that would influence his decision either way."

"He's good, I think." Christophe glanced over to the fireside. "He seemed very excited by that package you asked me to give him."

"How would you feel about spending more time with us – with both of us, if Roo decides to stay with me rather than move to South America with his mother?"

"I'd like to." Christophe fished out his tobacco tin and cigarette papers. "But there are things I need to do before I can settle down. It might take me a year. It might take two, or maybe a lot longer. Growing up, I always resented Da for not letting us know when he'd be turning up or how long he'd be going away for the next time. And Katja resented me for the hours I used to put in, even when I was managing to get home most nights."

"Katja?" 'Kate' in several Northern European languages, Edward seemed to remember. He carefully avoided the question of what had caused Christophe to work unsociable hours.

Welcome back!

Hope you managed plenty of rest since your return.

Great work there.

Back to nothing new again. Argh! So, I edited. A further excerpt from Mycroft's conversation at the facility.

***

Mycroft folded his hands on top of the folder. “You hadn’t intended to breed the animals?”

“The litter came as a surprise,” Dr Agarwal explained. “Randolph had adopted two kittens shortly before arriving here under the impression that the animals had been neutered at the rescue centre where he acquired them.”

“When it became clear that the young female was pregnant, it offered an exciting opportunity to observe if any of the parents’ learned behaviours might be passed on to a new generation,” Skye added immediately.

“Then one of the resultant litter going missing was surely a cause for concern?” Mycroft remarked.

“We thought he might have got out of Randolph’s quarters and hid,” Agarwal said. “Perhaps died.”

“So you would eventually nose him out beneath the stairs,” Mycroft said.

Glad you are safely returned. Looking forward to updates when you've rested up.

Another day of good progress! So much is happening! Edward's practically proposing.

administrivia

What a great term! Possibly, I've admired it before, but it deserves more.

Fantasic progress!

Ianto playing the Torchwood card there.

Thank you for putting up today's post! I haven't been feeling well and went to bed early and got up late--I'll preschedule tomorrow in a few minutes.

I think the driving style must have some connection to the flying==once a daredevil always a daredevil :)

[identity profile] candidlily.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
136 words written tonight, and I might spend some more time editing since I've got a few extra minutes. But in case I give up and go to sleep, I figured I'd go ahead and check in! :)

[identity profile] stevie-carroll.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the encouragement. Edward wants stability for Rupert as well as for himself -- or at least the possibility of it at some point in the future -- and that's really what Christophe wants, barring this big personal quest he's determined to finish first (even though he still won't tell anyone what it is).

[identity profile] stevie-carroll.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
A very dry and unemotional discussion (on the surface at least). Then again I've always tried to remain calm in the face of cats deciding to hide themselves in strange parts of my houses.

[identity profile] stevie-carroll.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
Still making consistent progress there.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
I vanished for a few days as well, with far less excuse...

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
I know all about that administrivia, I do. Your dialogue is still going well, nice and flowing and natural sounding :)

Yay for posting!!!

Unless one counted Jack’s reckless driving style that seemed to defy the laws of physics on occasion, that is. ... I do like that :)

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh that last line... I winced, good writing.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm impressed by the steadiness - you get some done every day.

[identity profile] stevie-carroll.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. There'll be more administrivia today, once I'm done with the cleaning.

[identity profile] saki101.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
Ah.

[identity profile] saki101.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
I've never felt I found all the hiding spots, although I've certainly tried.

[identity profile] saki101.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
I had a debate with myself about that line, but it happened to me with a mouse one time.

[identity profile] espresso-addict.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Mostly a washout. I did two more 30 Days posts & read the Jade Dragon scene I was working on, but the plumbers pretty much exhausted all thought, creative or otherwise.

[identity profile] espresso-addict.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Kudos! Your steady progress is fantastic.

[identity profile] espresso-addict.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Editing counts, too! This is a fascinating excerpt; so Red & Gray are supercats!! That would explain why they like the super-Holmes duo so much :)

Kudos on excellent progress! Planning is useful even if it seems to inevitably mean that the story changes under your nose... So Archer has prised some more truth out of Ianto -- good for him!

[identity profile] espresso-addict.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
500 words is excellent progress on a busy day, kudos! Nice excerpt; I like Christophe & Edward's careful conversation.

[identity profile] espresso-addict.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome back! Don't worry about catching up with comments, just get back into research/writing :)

[identity profile] stevie-carroll.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks on both counts.

[identity profile] stevie-carroll.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Much sympathy. I'm feeling pretty wiped out by everything I got done today, but the gardening was inspiring rather than distracting for my story at any rate.

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Rest and work (which needed to be done), so all good.

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome back to you too!

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2015-07-25 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! (but I want to catch up with what the rest of you have been writing too :D)

[identity profile] saki101.livejournal.com 2015-07-26 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so pleased you like the idea! :-D

[identity profile] saki101.livejournal.com 2015-07-26 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
At least you managed some writing-related work. It's remarkable under the circumstances!

[identity profile] espresso-addict.livejournal.com 2015-07-26 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It's remarkable how draining being cross is.

[identity profile] espresso-addict.livejournal.com 2015-07-26 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I might take Madam Vastra up on those grenades :)

[identity profile] saki101.livejournal.com 2015-07-26 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
And not being able to recharge.
