Pico, Day 24

I hope nobody minds that I step in, since [livejournal.com profile] elmey seems to be hindered by the higher powers.
So, here is your place to share today's achievements, thoughts, concerns and victories.

May the magic be with us all!

Sorry for vanishing for long - weekend away turned into weekend away, followed by a quick turnaround at home, then another trip; all with extra stress due to possible rl crisis-ness. However, now safely back home and everything stable for the moment. All this lead to no writing or research while I was away, but hopefully now that I'm back I'll get back into it (but probably not until tomorrow as today is a day for resting and recovering). Also, catching up on comments, although idk if I'll manage to ever catch up properly... but looking forward to seeing the what everyone has been up to.

Another 500 words today, after a busy afternoon of paperwork and administrivia. Edward's arranged for transport to collect him, Roo and Quinn, but Christophe is planning to get a lift back to his hotel in Linda's car before the horsebox turns up:

"In that case..." Edward considered his words carefully, and decided to try a different approach. "How's Roo? I'm afraid his mother's news rather took me by surprise, and I didn't want to say anything that would influence his decision either way."

"He's good, I think." Christophe glanced over to the fireside. "He seemed very excited by that package you asked me to give him."

"How would you feel about spending more time with us – with both of us, if Roo decides to stay with me rather than move to South America with his mother?"

"I'd like to." Christophe fished out his tobacco tin and cigarette papers. "But there are things I need to do before I can settle down. It might take me a year. It might take two, or maybe a lot longer. Growing up, I always resented Da for not letting us know when he'd be turning up or how long he'd be going away for the next time. And Katja resented me for the hours I used to put in, even when I was managing to get home most nights."

"Katja?" 'Kate' in several Northern European languages, Edward seemed to remember. He carefully avoided the question of what had caused Christophe to work unsociable hours.

Back to nothing new again. Argh! So, I edited. A further excerpt from Mycroft's conversation at the facility.

***

Mycroft folded his hands on top of the folder. “You hadn’t intended to breed the animals?”

“The litter came as a surprise,” Dr Agarwal explained. “Randolph had adopted two kittens shortly before arriving here under the impression that the animals had been neutered at the rescue centre where he acquired them.”

“When it became clear that the young female was pregnant, it offered an exciting opportunity to observe if any of the parents’ learned behaviours might be passed on to a new generation,” Skye added immediately.

“Then one of the resultant litter going missing was surely a cause for concern?” Mycroft remarked.

“We thought he might have got out of Randolph’s quarters and hid,” Agarwal said. “Perhaps died.”

“So you would eventually nose him out beneath the stairs,” Mycroft said.

136 words written tonight, and I might spend some more time editing since I've got a few extra minutes. But in case I give up and go to sleep, I figured I'd go ahead and check in! :)

Mostly a washout. I did two more 30 Days posts & read the Jade Dragon scene I was working on, but the plumbers pretty much exhausted all thought, creative or otherwise.
