Scott Bakula's character has the personality of a dead goldfish; a friend of mine used to call him Captain Sockface. *g* So I made him a descendant of Jack Harkness (who, according to Torchwood canon, was married at some point, in the late 19th or early 20th century), gave him a similar personality and "cast" John Barrowman to play him. A Starfleet captain ought to have charisma, dammit, and lots of it!
