May the magic be with us all!

A bit early today, as I'll be busy in the afternoon. Sorry for the irregular schedule.d

Cat report: Max is home and he hates that cone so much, so much. And the other two cats are freaked out by it too, they're giving him the evil eye--and one of them is his brother! He also doesn't like his pills and is mad he can't go outside and and I can already see this plastic boondoggle isn't going to last the ten days he's supposed to wear it. I give it three before hes gotten it off. I've been googling other options to protect the wound--the only one I like is the cat onesie (https://www.chewy.com/suitical-recovery-suit-cats-black/dp/140899)--but I'd have to knock him out to get it on him so that's not gonna work either.

In any case, I managed 30 minutes on my story this morning. Basically playing around with the opening scene. I'm wondering if I can make it all dialogue but haven't decided yet if that's the way to go. I do like to write dialogue though :)

[livejournal.com profile] susandennis had a similar problem and found a sort of padded collar (a bit like this one (https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/383303108679?chn=ps) only cat-sized and padded rather than inflatable), that seemed to be a lot more effective than the 'cone of shame'.

wow, I'm ordering one of those, it looks like it would be more comfortable, and at least he could eat more easily and reach his whiskers to clean them! I just need him not to be able to lick the wound on his side. It's worth a try at least. Thanks for the tip!

Poor Max. I hope he doesn't aggravate the wound. What an unhappy time for him. And for you as well, trying to keep him from hurting himself.

Good luck with the story! I like the idea of all dialogue!

Luckily Max is sleeping a lot, but when he's not sleeping he's unhappy and lets me know. And of course he managed to get the collar off already :D We let him keep it off to eat, then had to put it back on :(

I figure all dialogue might be OK for 500 words or less. For a longer story, it would be burdensome for both reader and writer probably. But we'll see how it goes.

That poor old fellow. I'm glad he's sleeping a lot. Hopefully he will get used to the cone. Nice that he gets a little reprieve at mealtime:)

You have hit on an excellent way to stick closer to the 500 word limit! Fingers crossed it goes well!

Poor Max! I know you can get some kind of soft alternative, but it's harder to stop the cat from reaching around it, I think - it might be better than nothing, though.

Yeah, I'm going to try one of the other options. The cone is really too much to deal with for me and him. He already managed to get it off once, it's not like they're well made...

Poor Max. I think the record here for the Cone of Shame was four hours. A coworker got a onesie for her little dog after he had some surgery. Dogs, I think, are easier than cats to dress, though...

Dialogue is such fun, too.

Yeah, dogs are more amenable to outfits! Max already got the cone off once. We let him eat his dinner without it, but had to put it back on when he started trying to lick the stitches. I'm going to try one of the soft collar options to see if that works better.

My co-worker said they almost went the soft collar route, but didn't. Good luck to both of you!
