HASA was a bit... elitist maybe. It was one of the early single fandom archives and it was overly complicated in its rules, but had some really, really, good stuff there. But it became too big and too expensive for the mods and they decided to just keep the research wing open and transfer everything else as a complete collection to AO3.
It was.... I only had something posted there at the request of a friend or I would not have even tried it was so complicated. But it did mean I found myself on AO3 with no effort on my part :)
I forgot to add: if you have your fics posted to LJ somewhere, you could, in theory, import it to AO3. I admit that the import function often didn't work for me, so I haven't tried for years, but they might have ironed out the bug in the meantime.
Nowadays I post my stuff to one of my LJ comms, otherworlds_lib, hiddenrealms or edhellondawards, since doing all the italics and bold fonts is a lot easier on LJ than hand-coding on AO3, which is a real pain in the backside, and then copy and paste the whole thing. It works like a charm.
