The 5th day without any new words. I think I've lost my writing mojo, at least temporarily. I started re-reading my older stories in the hope to get inspired by my own brilliance [*insert heavy sarcasm here*], but it didn't really work. At least I realized that I'm still happy with those stories, so that's something. Even if I'm in the very small minority that enjoys them.
You will get back in the groove, this may just be a time you need to recharge those creative batteries. Also, maybe by revisiting some of your favorite stories you've written will be reassuring, yes, you really did write those fine stories, and you certainly will be moved to write more again!
I re-visit my 'creative genius', when I'm stumped. I do sometimes wonder who came up with those stories, sometimes is seems incredible it could have been me.
Have you tried just writing random paragraphs? Just a moment with no story for them to fit into?
Sometimes you just really need the break. I've been there quite recently and a friend pointed out that for her, the struggle is often a sign that she needs to be nice to herself and embrace the break rather than trying to struggle through it. I employed this advice and a couple days later, after taking writing off my to-do list entirely, I was back in the swing of it.
Day 22: late night writing last night was past midnight so I am claiming those 200 words for day 22. We have our little granddaughter with us today, overnight, and tomorrow. So I am planning to work on my Easter story tonight after she's in bed. After yesterday's frustrating session I came up with a change to the story that may make the thing work. Will continue with that tonight if I can stay motivated to write instead of turning into a sloth!
Sometimes I think sloths have the right approach to life. Besides, 200 words are not so bad. I'd be deliriously happy with 200 words for the apparently permanently stuck Chapter 18.
This sloth fell asleep while watching a TV show with husband:) Every bit of thinking and writing is helping me get this story figured out. In the beginning of the month I got off to a roaring start but it turned out to be in the wrong direction!
I think it will. So far my gut feeling about it says it will work out. Still some questions about how to handle the ending, but it will all come together in time:)
So rather than actual words in the docs, I opened a new document today to talk to myself about my fics. The goal was to figure out overall where they're going and make sure it all flows correctly with what I'm planning. I wound up with 3k in the document, and I only through one and a third? of the three fics. Definitely some words I can use in the doc, though not all 3k. It was nice to let up the pressure, knowing that none of those words had to go over, and I plan to continue/possibly finish this exercise tomorrow!
I start all my stories with a 'plot points' doc, which is just basically me mulling over what I want to do with a story — really helpful if, like me, there can be long breaks before you can get back to a fic. Really helps me remember what I was thinking.
Me, I have notebooks for that purpose. Since I write everything by hand first, these notebooks are of vital importance — if I remember where I put them! *g*

on 2021-03-22 08:07 pm (UTC)So — as ever — RL dragged me off to do something more boring instead. So, still stuck on chapter five of the story I'm trying to move.
Therefore the sum total of my lack of accomplishment thus far adds up to:
Pros BB — apart from a bit of tweaking, nothing much more on this — but March is not over, so don't give up faint hearts !
Move story — as mentioned, still part-way through transferring chapter five — still no joy on finding a suitably illustrative poem.
MFU WIP — nothing more on this so far.
