No words for me in the last two days, not even some timeline fiddling. I was too busy with other things, most of them related to housework. I did type up to the second Christmas gift-fic, though, so there's that.
Though I'm still going back and forth about just what this story will be: with extended plot and OCs, or a more emo tale with focus on the two main characters only, I managed to work on a scene today that I'd need in either case, around 400 usable words. I'm pleased with myself :)
It's 4:30 PM and already getting dark. I hate standard time.
I have no problem with standard time. I lived the vast majority of my life by it, and while I still worked, I either went to work or returned from work in darkness. Even if we had summer time. What I hate is the switch twice a year, when all clocks have to be re-set and outdated electronic devices won't switch and I can't re-set their clocks, so different times are shown all across the flat. Now that sucks.
You're on a tear with your DtC story! At this rate you'll be done well ahead of the deadline!
Since the time change I've been getting up at 5:30 most days. I hate that, too. Although it's nice to have all the daylight by 7:00 AM, I also hate it getting dark so early.
I've been on a little bit of a roll and got 347 words done, but although I maybe could get finished tonight, I don't have the energy.
Anyway, this bit interested me, because you think of people knowing more as they get closer to the present, and here they are doing something that everyone before (and after) them knew was stupid.
In another way things were going backwards. For centuries great efforts had been made to prevent Londonโs cess-pools โ traditionally emptied by night-soil men โ from draining into the sewer ditches and so into the river, but in 1815 they were finally allowed to connect up. The growing popularity of flush toilets only made things worse, and the Thames became more and more polluted, with recurrent cholera epidemics between 1831 and 1854.
Day 10: after a couple days of no writing, I worked for on a scene, added a bit, not a lot, and also added notes to myself for adding detail to another scene, one that I'm not sure is even going to be in the story.
