So, I've written the first draft of the exorcism scene, complete with divine (or rather angelic) intervention and bastardized Sumerian mythology and stuff. I foresee many, many corrections, but at least it is done now, and the rest of the chapter is just tying up threads. I'm very relieved.
Very impressive to have the draft done already. It must have been tricky. I had to look Sumerian mythology up to even know what it is:) Wow. You plunged right in and worked through the exorcism! Good job.
I've always had a great interest in Ancient Egypt, Ancient Mesopotamia and such realms, but this is the first time I actually used something of it in a story. Of course, what I did with it would probably get me burned at the stake as a heretic — a good thing I've secularized my relationship with the Creator decades ago. We get on just fine without the Church interfering. *g*
Because I like Sumerian mythology, perhaps? Nah, it actually came from the fact that the main adversary in "Blood Ties" was a demon by the name of Astaroth. The name is actually a female plural, originating in the Sumerian goddess Inanna, who later became Ishtar, then Astarte, the plural being used because of her multiple statues in various temples. The Hebrew Bible considered all pagan gods and goddesses as demons or somesuch, and when it was translated into Greek (I think?) the translator didn't realize that "Astaroth" meant the goddesses, in plural (I think the singular is Astoreth, but I'm not sure). So, it was transferred into Greek (?) as a single male demon, and his career as the boss of 40 demonic legions in Hell started from there. *g*
"Bastardized Sumerian mythology and stuff"... I like :) I have a habit of doing that myself for whatever history/mythilogy/whatever I am playing with (some of my fandoms like Stargate and Merlin, it's pretty mandatory!)
I have still not started yet since one small task or another distraction keeps getting in the way, but officially declaring my intent to get a least some editing done tonight
It's true! I ended up editing what is currently chapter 4 as well, though after editing I realized it is a little too short to make a full chapter. But still!
No writing on Day 3 and 4. Just too much going on and I turned into a sloth during the little free time I had.
But I'm back at it today. This morning I wrote and transcribed 350 new words, and I will spend time looking for an episode in which Illya Kuryakin briefly thinks Napoleon has been killed. I can't remember which episode it was. I want to take a fast look at it to see how to use this specific bit of the episode in my story. I hope it won't take too long to find the episode.
In other writing activities, I will create the Weekly Reader post for mfuwss, and write some overdue notes to some friends.
I have not heard the song! I love it! Still haven't scanned the episodes, but I will do it today. I already know I'm going to use the first scene from the first episode and the last scene from the final episode. The trick will be to find the episode in which one character thinks the other one has been killed. Fortunately there are some wonderful websites that summarize the episodes, so I hope I can find it quickly. Then in the days to come I'll watch the episodes — I have the DVDs, yay that will be fun!
LOL yup. The trouble is, the scene I can't find is tiny, and it has nothing to do with the plot! So I'm looking for a needle in a haystack among the many, many, many episodes I can't categorically rule out. I think I'm going to have to give up on finding that scene, though. I've spent enough time looking for it with no luck. My last resort, and this is only after I have pretty much finished the story — I could scan the scripts and do a last minute revision to use the scene instead of inventing something:)
Well, if I ever do find that scene, I'll use it for some other little story!
I posted the prompt ficlets from yesterday… the first, an extremely silly but fun (for me!) one with the prompt 'dragons' I redid a bit of what I wrote, and then a bit more, and so today added enough to make it just over 1200 words (nothing happens, of course, this is me). It's for the Chalet School books by Elinor Brent-Dyer (https://rthstewart.dreamwidth.org/173768.html?thread=13775560#cmt13775560), but don't worry if you've never heard of them :)
I did another for that prompt, a tiny tiny and very silly snippet (three sentences for once! - and only 69 words) from the Dragonriders of Pern (https://rthstewart.dreamwidth.org/173768.html?thread=13776840#cmt13776840) universe :)
And this one for The Untamed (https://rthstewart.dreamwidth.org/173768.html?thread=13777096#cmt13777096), based on the prompt 'hair braiding' (with Nie Huaisang and Jin Guangyao).
And I have a couple of ideas to write up in the next day or two :)
Well done! That first one's very lively, enjoyed it:) And awww, Dragonriders of Pern, I've always meant to go back and read the first few books of the series. I just loved those books. And the braiding ficlet — nice! '... small, careful, gentle... bloodied, murderous, cruel hands.' eeek that was a great last line there.
Managed about 15 minutes of X-Files fan fiction writing last night, and worked on finishing one scene and writing another.
I'm working my way through a murder mystery story that's inspired by "The Man with Two Brains" but having a subplot involving the Smoking Man that isn't going to be explained — yet.
