Here's today's prompt for you to post your updates and any excerpts and thoughts etc in comments.

I also thought I'd provide a link to a simple word counter, the Picometer at Writertopia.com. To make it easy, just copy the following HTML, changing 1340 to the number of words you've written, and 5000 to whatever your target is:

The result for this example is:

Late late late (due to the twin messes sometimes called Real Life and My Brain) I just want to write something - at least100 words, hopefully more like 500 - every day, on whatever strikes me. Hopefully by the end of the month I'll have some completed stories (drabbles, whatever) to show for it...

My first post (from last night, so the 1st here) is here (http://sallymn.livejournal.com/428756.html).

Oh, I love ghost stories. I don't know the fandom, but the setting is great and I'm looking forward to more of this!

I'm getting fonder of them, and they do fit a lot of fandoms... this one's Old West.

Don't know the fandom so I got frustrated not knowing who the characters were (but then I'm not the target audience) but it was beautiful. The bone orchard - such a great phrase and so chillingly used.

'Bone orchard' was from a book I have of obsolete American expressions... given that the setting is Old West, I had to get it in sometime, and now's as good as any :)

Thankee!

This grabbed me right from "the dull ashen moon". We had one of those last night, and it was very satisfying to have exactly the right words for it.

Thank you! I love words, and it's sometimes hard to get the ones to describe what's in your mind's eye.
