Exciting!
Though I am puzzled by the phrase half in and half out of the ladder because I don't think of ladders as something one can be inside of.

He's straddling the rung of the ladder - the foot that slipped has gone off the rung and the leg is down on the wrong side.
I struggled with the description here, and welcome suggestions!

Well, you could say "straddling the rung of the ladder"...
