My heartfelt thanks to [livejournal.com profile] elmey for taking over the duties while I was enjoying the beauties of North Germany.

Here's today's prompt for your writing updates and for any extracts, thoughts, or comments you might have.

Keep the fires burning! :))

You are so near your target :)

Lovely detail here and very moving how much Edward has come to care for Rupert!

Thanks. I'm nearer to the target than to the end of the story, I fear.

Edward cares far too much for the boy, from some points of view.

Elegant

I love the detail of the christening mug. It reveals so much. He's lost both of them, that much is certain.

And the final sentence...then he headed for the mountains. What more needs to be said?

It was a dangerous career, working for her.

The chilli was great! I found some pure corn chips (just local corn and oil) to have with it and I've got leftovers for lunch. YUM!

These two have seen an opportunity to extract some of Servalan's fortune. :-)

What does 'If he's red, he's right' mean? Presumably nothing to do with socialism.

I hope he survives to see Rupert again. I can't remember which brother(s) do from the novel excerpts.

What length are you going for on the synopsis?

But a good exercise if it lets you get an objective view of the plot developments. You may have a way to go, but it's shorter than the way that got you here ;)

Morwen sounds like an excellent addition to the story! I like her already.

I like the way this gives us backgrouind and also gives us a better sense of the relationship between Elisabeth and Theresa.

I like the way you use the photo and the mug to let us see Edward's state of mind; it's very spare and every effective.

Thanks. I thought about writing more, but it wouldn't have fitted with his character.

Let us be fair: Alexander von Winterstadt is a deeply unpleasant character (so unpleasant that I ought to find a way to let him appear, I suppose, but I don't think I can manage it).
