I've started typing up Christmas Gift Fic #3. I also finished reading "The 13 Problems" by Agatha Christie, which I started for much-needed imagination.
I've been trying to devote regular times to writing my current book — I managed to expand one of my chapters a lot just by introducing a side character a lot earlier than planned and having him chat to one of the other characters. The chapter was originally just this one character at home with his thoughts.
I don't know how much forward movement I had with regard to plot today; I noodled around with some ideas, not sure any of them are worthy of much follow up but we'll see. I'm basing this story on some non-existent technology that the series introduces but doesn't take very seriously. I'm using it a bit seriously, but it is a very ridiculous technology and so I don't want to make too much of it, I just want to examine some interesting effects. I'm sure that explains nothing :D :D It has to do with memory...
Anyway, I'm stumbling along and will eventually get to where I'm meant to go!
The problem with non-existing technology is that there are always nerds who'd accuse you of not using it "properly" — whatever that might mean. I had my share of rude reviewers in the Star Trek fandom in this area...
Luckily that won't happen in this fandom, no one will complain about the details, but it's for my own peace of mind. I'm not comfortable if I'm writing something that I haven't thought through a bit.
My spider demon now has a face :) I got a couple of hundred words, mostly description of it changing as it's stuck inside a (big) glass container of some sort, and am now wondering if I need a plot or if I just make it straightforward literary/horror (not that I probably can, but hey, if I don't try...)
Speaking of which I finally have an idea for my Secret Santa story that doesn't actually need a plot, but will need a bit of research so I started that before we got visitors. I have scribbled down the basic idea and what research I want (I'm going to send up some real life things because the idea is — I hope — funny. And will be mostly dialogue, which I like writing. And short, so I'm thinking I might try and combine three related vignette pieces to make the whole).
First off, no writing on Day 22. My resolution to write first thing in the morning fell flat on its face. I forgot I had to get up and get going first thing because I was going to visit a friend. The rest of the day was filled with housecleaning and assorted chores in preparation for Thanksgiving.
Day 23: 400 words, plus re-working some of the plot. Again, I didn't write in the morning - I needed my LeCarre with my coffee, I decided. I spent most of the morning and afternoon working on Thanksgiving prep, and finally landed at my desk mid-afternoon.
Tomorrow I think I'll be writing later in the day/evening, and then won't be back until Friday.
Our guest list has grown smaller by 7. One family got quarantined yesterday due to Covid exposure. The other family have all fallen ill to severe head colds/sore throats/coughs. They all had Covid last year, but they refuse to be vaccinated. They won't be tested now, either. But they are staying home because whether it's Covid or a severe cold, either way, they don't want to spread it to the family.
I am really enjoying writing this fic now that I'm in the thick of it. I wrote 2k today!!! Unbelievable. I've met the minimum word count for the exchange, but have a good chunk of outline still to go with drafts due Sunday. Fingers crossed!
