March 2022, Day 4

This is the place to tell us about your daily success (or the lack of it)!

May the magic be with us all!

I like that phrase too, I may adopt it (word nerd here...)

I absolutely sympathise.

Words can be overrated.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2022-03-04 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I did three ficlets, about 1100 words in total :) I'm now going to revise them and upload them, and will add links :) They are very simple (and waaaaay over 3 sentences) but still.

I also have one sentence of another which is haunting me... I may try and finish it tomorrow.

It felt good :)

My forte does seem to be scribbling nonsense...

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2022-03-05 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I will! I mean, people may not recognise all (or any) of the fandoms but still...

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2022-03-08 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That's how I felt :)

(PS — what a cute icon!)

I have no idea where it came from - a random image search when I was young and foolish :D

I may have finished my essay. lol It's a little more hodgepodge than usual. Threw it at my 'beta' but it was near the end of the day, so probably won't get it back until Monday.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2022-03-05 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
But it's done! Even if you need to change it, that's much easier when you have something to change :)

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2022-03-05 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
True.

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2022-03-09 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. :)

No words today. Just didn't have it in me. I'm hoping the day off tomorrow will lend to more energy and more words.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2022-03-05 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
There are days like that. Have a good day off and recharge your batteries.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2022-03-05 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
If the words aren't there, they aren't there. Sometimes I push myself, and the result is so uninspired I then delete them all the next day and feel depressed about it...

I hope you can do better today! Ups and downs are part of it. Have some virtual chocolate.

I hope some words have arrived, but days off are important too!

I am afraid nothing got written.

I got a message in the morning that the person who was meant to open the small churches' bookshop was not well. He asked could I go down and put a notice on the door to say it was closed for the day, but I knew that there was an event in the church whose grounds the bookshop is in, and I decided it would look bad if we were closed, so I dropped everything and went down and opened the shop for the day. It was worth it as a number of people came down even if it was only to buy a card or two.

But by the time I got home I had to make custard for a half finished trifle needed for a meal I am helping cater for today. Then I grabbed a cup of coffee and got out again as I was meeting friends for dinner, in a town about 14 miles away. It was nice to see them, a good meal — and by the time I got home around 10.30pm I definitely wasn't in the right frame of mind to write!

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2022-03-05 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely not — real life has a way of throwing blocks at us, and you definitely had a day of block-hrowing yesterday!

{Custard.............. mmm, sorry}

Those are pretty good reasons for not writing. And you helped other people get words!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2022-03-08 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! And yes, I hadn't thought of that!

On day 3 and 4 I each only managed to scramble out the bare minimum 100 words right before going to bed (better than on day 2 when I didn't even touch any of my writing files)

So I haven't made any actual progress on the story since I just wrote whatever quick filler words I could cobble together but oh well. Keeping the flow going

[personal profile] artemis10002000 2022-03-05 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true!

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2022-03-05 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
My experience is any writing is better than none (and none sometimes... happens anyway) because it can get habit forming either way.

[personal profile] artemis10002000 2022-03-05 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that is true. It's why I try to keep the habit, even when I know my words are gonna get scrapped later one.

In my course last session, someone quoted Ray Bradbury: "Write a short story every week. All fifty-two of them can't be horrible." He may be over-optimistic, but I am going to try to do that even if they are just ficlets...

[personal profile] artemis10002000 2022-03-07 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a very good way of thinking about it, I will try to take his advice to heart!

It's something. Even if it's just not to have the excuse that the streak is already broken :)

That's true, and it's why I try to avoid not doing anything at all. I know once I quit my streak I will find it very hard to pick it up again.

A very introductory bit on Cook's first voyage - 127 words. I was really hoping to get more than the bare minimum done, but it didn't seem to work out that way.

Cook's first voyage turned out to be one of the greatest voyages of exploration, but it began as a scientific voyage – observing the 1769 transit of Venus from the recently discovered island of Tahiti

Still good! You were writing, and important words too establishing the setting and plot
