I slacked off yesterday for no good reason, today I've been mostly revising and wishing I had the technical skill to do what I want to do :( Tomorrow I will ignore the problem and plow on ahead.
I'm pleased to have reached my original goal in terms of word count, but since the story's not finished, only mildly pleased.
(What's the problem? Can we help? Without having the faintest clue what the difficulty is, my first impulse in problem-solving is to see if whatever-it-is can be done in the dialogue).
You've reached your original word count goal, and you still have over a week to finish the story, so I think you should be more than mildly pleased :-)
I was trying to find a clever way to weave the past and present together, but my idea was too ambitious and pretty much incomprehensible on the page. Maybe if I color coded.... I think it will be alright the way it is. Next time!
Or different fonts! Or different tenses! Or the date at the head of every section! Or a little photo of Napoleon and Illya looking middle-aged and careworn for the later sections and skinny and youthful for the earlier ones!
*sigh* There are so many solutions, it's hard to pick just one. Maybe you could go with all of them?
