You've reached your original word count goal, and you still have over a week to finish the story, so I think you should be more than mildly pleased :-)
I was trying to find a clever way to weave the past and present together, but my idea was too ambitious and pretty much incomprehensible on the page. Maybe if I color coded.... I think it will be alright the way it is. Next time!
Or different fonts! Or different tenses! Or the date at the head of every section! Or a little photo of Napoleon and Illya looking middle-aged and careworn for the later sections and skinny and youthful for the earlier ones!
*sigh* There are so many solutions, it's hard to pick just one. Maybe you could go with all of them?
