Here's today's daily prompt for your updates, excerpts, any thoughts, and so on. Thanks to
espresso_addict for stepping in yesterday, when I'd given up on LJ and gone off to bed.

And thanks to
forodwaith for the links to other wordcount meters, because I was getting twitchy without the Zokutou one.

Posting in comments to the daily mod post will help us keep track of how we're all doing and mean less traffic on people's friends lists.
Apologies that I missed posting yesterday (long day from 7am-11pm): if I miss a morning again,
forodwaith or
quietann will step in - thank you both.

Wordcount and Excerpt

Here's mine, though I rather suspect most of what I've written tonight will be slashed and burned...
Now there were Emperors in Barrayar's past who'd had legendary strings of lovers, but poor Gregor, it appeared, would not be one of them. It was too bad; on the few occasions Donna had had opportunity to speak with him, this man needs to get laid was all she could think.

Mr Ringwood had never carried a female in his curricle, as his grandmother well knew, and the idea of entrusting the mouths of his purebreds to a stranger! A lady! He could echo Miss Wantage, that would indeed be above anything!
Feels a lot, given that currently I can only lie on my back...

Here's my update.
Starting wordcount: 0
Added today: 284
Snippet:
It's not until the third day that Martiene finds the door. The first day is for the Company and the second day is for the show, as it's been for time out of mind. Michael's voice in her head, precise, laconic: "Unlock the doors. Turn on the worklights. Check in with the Net for your assignments. Don't stop for coffee--that means you, Kubera. When we want you to have an innovation, we'll let you know."

Knowledge was the key. And for Michael, the Remembrance visions were the key to knowledge. At least, they always had been, until his sessions had started showing him inexplicable scenes of this world. Until, just before the world shifted, his encounter with John the Bookist had left him wondering. And the next Vision had only served to deepen his doubt and confusion.
We're very early in the chapter yet, so that's a "previously in Archivist" type hint(no subject)

Er - oh - crikey - yes. Today's the first day of Pico, isn't it.
So, er, I suppose I should write something...
Looks like the first lucky winner of my short fiction finish-me lottery (thanks again go to
altariel1 for the idea - quite the ringleader, aren't we ;) ) is a quaint little piece entitled "Lot 847":
“I did once meet a very charming laundry press,” it finally said. “I regret to tell she was sold almost immediately, since the lady of the house wished to replace her with a more fashionable model.”
